Our story begins within the mountains of Kandila, a small village in southern Greece where George Fotopoulos was born. When he turned twenty-three, he longed for a life beyond the mountains. With no knowledge of the English language, George travelled by plane to Canada with little to his name. Once he found his way to Toronto, he soon met Maria, who also immigrated to Canada from the coastal village of Pylos, Greece.

Together, the couple built a life out of nothing. They rented a small apartment in Scarborough on Midland Avenue before they saw an advertisement in the local newspaper that a restaurant in Midland, Ontario, was for sale. With an uncertain future, they decided it must be fate calling them to this small town. In 1976, the Fotopoulos’ took a chance on themselves in this new venture which is now The Arch Steakhouse.

Now, approaching fifty years in business with three generations of family working together, the restaurant is still flourishing. Maria and George often remind their grandchildren of the importance of family; perhaps this is the secret ingredient to the business’ success. In the present years, we have been working hard to provide our community with what we’ve always valued: quality food, familiar faces, and an inviting atmosphere that everyone can call home.
